Since the role was created in 1973, the Mediator of the French Republic has been helping to resolve disagreements between the citizen and the government. He is an independent authority who does not receive instructions from the civil service or the government. Jean-Paul Delevoye, the former Civil Service Minister, has been the Mediator of the Republic since April 2004.
