Contribute to making the Mediterranean-too often a place of tension and confrontation-a space for dialogue and consultation: this is the purpose of the initiative to bring together the mediators and ombudsmen of the Mediterranean countries.
The Mediterranean network of Mediators and Ombudsmen is devoted to the promotion and protection of human rights in Mediterranean countries.
It helps normalize the experience and initiatives of various institutions for collective enrichment, deep relationships between members, and strengthen cooperation ties. The Member Institutions are committed to support each other in a spirit of solidarity and good neighbourly relations through a dialogue that transcends borders and differences in governance between the states bordering the Mediterranean.
The purpose is to disseminate the principles of democracy and good governance, raise citizens’ awareness about their rights and obligations, and make visible the institutional commitment.
The Members of the association have already met three times: in Rabat (Morocco) in 2007, in Marseille (France) in 2008 and in Athens (Greece) in December 2009.
