The Mediator has been, since 1984, member of the Standing Committee, the successor to the Committee established at the initiative of René Cassin, Companion of the Liberation and future Nobel Peace Prize after the adoption in 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The NCCHR is composed of representatives of NGOs, associations defending human rights, trade unions, cults and ways of thinking and qualified key figures.
Consulted by the Government, the NCCHR makes recommendations on draft legislation and national and international legislation related to their consequences for human rights.
By participating actively not only in the work of sub-committees' (human rights and social change, national and international issues, education and training in human rights) but also in deliberations of plenary sessions, the French Mediator provides his contribution to the opinions of the NCCHR while nourishing his own reflection on societal debates.
